Movement Through Intention

Regardless of dance experience and style of choice there is an intrinsic source of movement within each of us, a need to move. Through exercises in concentration, bodily coordination and aesthetic sensibility we will explore this intention and work on incorporating it into your movement vocabulary bringing each dancer closer to an individually authentic "voice" in their dance, building a bridge between learned technique and fluid expression.

Dynamics in Time

Working within the structure of a short choreographed combination, students will explore the manipulation of the elements of time to create dynamic movement and push their own boundaries of artistic creativity. Material is geared towards Mira’s philosophy of empowering each student with the tools and understanding to create their own unique voice as artists through discussion, applied learning techniques, and critical thought. Bring an open mind, journal and willingness to learn.

Dynamics in Space

Students will analyze and manipulate given phrases with the principles of creative space to enhance and further their understanding of dynamic movement. Material is geared towards Mira’s philosophy of empowering each student with the tools and understanding to create their own unique voice as artists through discussion, applied learning techniques, and critical thought. Bring an open mind, journal and willingness to learn

The Deeper Basics

Learn the basics of Bellydance, or re-visit your knowledge of the form! In this class, we will go from head to toe to refine, strengthen, and discover our Bellydance technique. Using visualization, breath focus, and visual aids, we will explore how the bones and the muscles work in harmony to create safe, almost effortless movement. The student will learn how to utilize the breath for beautiful, calm extension, as well as tapping into the musculature for those snakey, sinuous undulations. We will explore how taking a moment of stillness is dynamic and effective. As time allows, we will put our new knowledge to use in fun combinations. This class is perfect for those who are new to bellydance, or for dancers that would like to work on a specific movement pattern.

Stopping on a Dime

Flowing beauty into dynamic strength-how does it happen? Learn the difference between popping and locking, how to flow into each, and how to control your muscles to make it all successful. We will build on the flow and footwork of the "Enjoying the Silence" workshop (or have a section of footwork in this class) and add the dynamics of static movement into it, while learning how to accent the nuances of electronic music which is popular in the Tribal Fusion world. This class will also have a section on spins and turns and how to go from stillness into a whirling tornado of color and grace!
